How to get help
And *not* drive tech support crazy
Okay, You've decided that you don't really want to try to fix the computer yourself. These pointers will help you to get the help that you want.
- Know what your computer has
- How much memory
- Which Operating System (Windows 95,Windows 98,MAC OS 7.6, etc.)
- What is the exact problem:
- What were you doing when the error occured
- Does the error occur every time?
- Has anything changed with your system? Have you Installed ANYTHING lately
- If there is an error message, what is the EXACT error message
- Don't use technical terms if you don't what they mean. Using terms incorrectly can cause confusion for the support person.
- When they ask you to read what the dialog box says, READ EXACTLY what the box says
-
If the box says hostname.wherever.com, don't say hostname wherever com. having to repeat to be sure the dots were there is wasting everybody's time
-
If calling tech support and you leave a message.
-
Leave your name and number, give a brief description, Then repeat your name and number again
